CKEditor version 4 is used in Tiki for a WYSIWYG editor for HTML content.

History

In 2008, CKEditor added as part of Tiki2
In 2017, CKEditor version 5 was released
In 2018, CKEditor announced a license change
In 2023, The Open Source version of CKEditor 4 reached end of life
In 202?, users start receiving messages encouraging them to purchase an extended support plan for CKEditor version 4 (Or upgrade to version 5)

Challenges

  • Most WYSIWYG editors are designed to HTML content, and getting them to work with textual content (like wiki syntax) is very difficult
