Doc "degradation" in whelp

I was thinking that, in web help, it might be cool to have a system whereby, if a user clicks on the web help icon, Tiki:

  1. attempts to open the web help for that feature which corresponds to the current running Tiki version, or,
  2. if that is not available, opens the next version down, degrading the help, to at least something semi-usable.

That is, you are using 1.8 and click on web help for a certain feature, and Tiki tries to open the web help for 1.8, and does NOT find the listing for that feature, so, it "degrades" to 1.7, and if that is not available to 1.6 etc.

How could a "meta" structure be created that has cross links between the structure we are working on now, to older structures?

Just a thought...

Cheers,
Rick

Yeah, I already said few things about that related to "CVS-like" Wiki...this is, we already have versioning, now why not branches 😊
This way you branch a doc page once newer doc exists.
Possibly the branches can be used for translation too.

Well, this would be good for dogfood 😊

But until then, the problem is avoided through the use of different sites. Once 1.8 doc is complete I (probably) will run a patching for all Tiki pages help links. Some will point to 1.8 doc at doc.tw.o, those for which no update was done will probably still point to tw.o.
